The Bahamas, we might just stay here forever.

Bahamas, we might just stay here forever.

When we crossed the Gulf from Florida to the Abacos Islands in the Bahamas, we had full intention to stay here for a few weeks and then head further south to the Exumas and Elutheras. We were told the Abacos are too cold in the winter and that most people head further south in search of the warmth of the tropical sun.

We never expected to get “stuck “here…..we were going to explore. Well, famous last words, we got stuck good and tight. At first we told ourselves we deserved to stop and smell the roses (and we really did deserve it) but here we are three months later , still smelling the roses.

We found the Abacos perfect, with warm sunny days and cool clear evenings. Yes, it even gets HOT here and it can be very humid at times too and we even have had cold days, the whole time we have been here we only had TWO!! It has been windy at times but it has also been calm and gorgeous.

So what have we been doing? Well, I started playing dominoes with the “girls” every afternoon but besides that we don’t have much to show for our time here. Gary says he tries to do something constructive everyday even if it is something like checking the lines or baking a pie. Seriously, it makes for very boring blogging but I feel I needed to update those of you who might be wondering what has happened to the Donovans…Well, we are lying low in the islands, not doing much of anything. AND LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!

We left the dock one day and got a radio call that one of the cats were sitting on the dock crying. Jessie must have sneaked off while we weren't watching and we left without noticing her not being on board. Gary had to take the dingy and go back and and fetch her.  A few days later she also managed to fall in the water and Gary had to jump in to save her. Her cries sounding  like that of a little baby. She clung to me afterwards but was not too happy when I had to wash the salt water off her. We hoped that she would have learnt her lesson but she still sneaks off even though we do everything to keep her on board. She is one sneaky cat!!

Soon we will have to start getting ready to head back to Florida, perhaps the beginning of April sometime. We are not the only ones; we have managed to meet many others who will be heading back around that time.
Till then, the best way to share what we are doing here is with pictures.
