Grand Haven to Saugatuck

Grand Haven to Saugatuck

Our last day in Grand Haven we were joined by our good friends Jim and Ann ( MV Wild Goose)We had dinner on the boat and then sat down for a great display of the musical fountain.
During the weekend the wall in Grand Haven was
crowed with people
and the boats were non-stop

back and forth

The next morning we woke up to rain and decided to sleep in till the weather cleared. We left Grand Haven at around 8am  with MV His Idea, and set out for Saugatuck.

The waters were choppy so we powered up a little. This seems to prevent the washing machine motion as we cut through all the sloppy stuff and get a smoother ride. Unfortunately the increased RPMs means an increase in fuel consumption, but what are you going to do hey?

We arrived in Saugatuck around 11 am and just as we got the anchor set, the rain came down.

That evening we were joined in the anchorage by another Looper ( MV My Therapy).  She hails from Kentucky and we got together with her crew to share information on free docks, walls and good anchoring spots and shared many laughs.
I climbed Mount Baldhead and have the T-shirt to prove it

It is high!!

Welcome to Saugatuck -  Museum

Diane,, the chain ferry , didn't operate because of the high winds

The tanning bear - Saugatuck Waterfront
( No, seriously I have no idea what it is called, that is just
what I named it )

As the forecast called for very high winds and seas up to 7 foot, we were very happy to be safely anchored in the sheltered bay off Saugatuck.  It might even take a day for the lake to calm down after the winds subside so we might be here for another day all depends on (AGAIN!!!) the weather.
When we leave here we will head to St. Joe and then stage to cross Lake Michigan to Chicago.

I just want to add that Saugatuck is a very artsy fartsy town but the people here are so friendly. People stopped us on the streets and talked to us. It is always lovely to meet such friendly folks, and if you read this you will know who I mean. Thank you for making us feel so very welcome.
