St Ignace 6-8 August 2012
Named in honour of St. Ignatius
of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit religious
order. St. Ignace is one of the oldest cities founded by Europeans in
Michigan.

What luck to get “stuck “here while waiting for Lake Michigan
to calm down from the large area of high pressure that is passing through on
its way to Quebec. (As I am writing this, the song that is playing on my iPod
is (Always take the weather with you
by Crowded House)
It sums up my life as it is right now. A few months ago, I
would check my email and Facebook out of habit a few times a day, now it is the
weather and wind apps on my iPhone that gets checked constantly. I am obsessing
about the weather. It rules everything. Are we staying or are we
going?...depends on THE WEATHER!!
We came over to St. Ignace early in the morning because my
wind app told me that there will be 5 mph winds at 05:00 and at 08:00 it will
increase to 15mph. The difference between being on the water in 5pmh winds and
15mph is HUGE!! So we were nice and safe
when the winds started to howl through here at (guess when) 08:00.
By the way, we filled with fuel here and paid $3.89 per
gallon, which works out to about 95c per liter!!!! The last place we filled up
they charged us $1.79 per liter (in Canada). The last time we pumped out our
holding tank we were charged $28.00 (in Canada) and here they charged us $10.00!!
Everybody is so friendly here. There must be about 5 Looper
boats at the marina waiting for the bad weather to pass. I think the thing that
bonds us is our fear (respect) of Lake Michigan. So we all got together on one
of the big boats MV Gypsea (46Foot
DeFever Pilothouse) for cocktails and swapped stories. Mainly Gary drooled over
the gorgeous boat while I tried to ask for advice for the upcoming crossing.
Advice is : wait for a good weather day.
We took along bike ride along the lakeshore today and found the
best view of the bridge.

Another windy day here in St Ignace. A few boats have left
and reported high waves, I am glad we stayed putt for another day. I might be a
chicken but I am a happy chicken.
Gary and I took a long bike ride to the northern part of the town.

We visited two museums, the Museum of Ojibwa Culture and the Fort de Buade Indian Museum. We also went to the Indian Village but it is just a tourist trap selling junk stuff.

Hi you two....if the wind dies down overnight, you should try and do overnight trips... they are fun ..... you should get used to them, you may have to travel at night in the Bahamas.
